Solidarity shared housing

The Cohabitations Solidaires programme brings together residents of Brussels (shared flats, hostels and co-living organisations) and refugees, enabling them to share accommodation.
Together, you’ll enjoy a rewarding experience and foster diversity whilst broadening your horizons.

How does it work?

Two people whose paths cross.
On the one hand, a spare room in a home with other Brussels residents; on the other, a refugee looking for somewhere to live.
Together, they share much more than just a home.

  • You have a spare room

    A shared flat in Brussels open to new people

    • A spare room in the Brussels-Capital Region
    • Good knowledge of French or English
    • Either 6 to 9 months (temporary shared accommodation) or at least 1 year (flat-sharing)

    In both cases, allow a new flatmate to register their address.

  • A refugee

    Looking for a place to live and to meet new people

    • Is keen to live in shared accommodation
    • Is an adult (aged 18 or over)
    • Has been granted refugee status or subsidiary/temporary protection in Belgium
    • Has at least an intermediate level (B1/B2) in French or English

At the same time, an ‘adminbuddy’ is paired with the refugee. Together, they carry out the necessary administrative procedures whilst the refugee is settling in.

Since 2019, more than 250 people have embarked on this journey!
